Football U8 -
Spiddal v Lettermore
06/10/02 - It was
another beautiful day in our Indian summer for a trip back to
Lettermore for the second game for Spiddal's under 8 footballers.
There was a good
size crowd there supporting both sides as the game started shortly
after midday. It was pretty much the same type of game as the
first leg a few weeks ago with Lettermore having difficulty
getting the ball past Spiddal strong midfield.
Spiddal's forwards
got a few quick goals early on and settled into a nice steady consistent
attacking game. Management even made some changes to reduce the
onslaught on the Lettermore goal and give them a chance to get to
the Spiddal goal. It's only under 8 after all.
The second half was
pretty much the same as the first and the final score was
Spiddal 7-2,
Lettermore 2-0

New House
Swap Program Added
26/09/02 - I have
added a House Swap Program to the AnSpideal.net site.
For the last couple
of years we have paid €60 to a home exchange site to place our
house on the internet for exchange. In both cases I have to say we
were very happy with the places we ended up going to but why pay
€60 when we have our own local website here that we can use?
The first 10 house
who join the program will be free for the first year and from then
on it will €30 per year.
On other sites both
parties have to be paid members but not so on AnSpideal.net. Only
one party has to be a member while the other can be just a visitor
to the site.

Lettermore - Football U 8
22/09/02 -
Today was the first game for our Under 8 Football players. The
young boys were very excited getting ready for the game. You can
see it on their faces on the picture below.
Lettermore started
well with a goal just a few minutes into the game. Luckily,
Spiddal settled down right away after that and the scores started
to come. One after the other the goals came for Spiddal. The
Lettermore boys were rarely able to break out of their own half.
The second half was
the same with score after score for Spiddal bringing the final
score for the day to -

15/09/02 - A lot of
our visitors to the site have asked that I include more pictures
both with the news items and on the pictures page.
I think it would be
great to be able to have a picture on here to go with the story
below on the caravans. A picture speaks a thousand words as they
say and in this case it would certainly be true.

bhfuil aon spás fágtha an anois le haghaidh tuille.
Go hiondúil ní
fhanann siad níos mó ná seachtain ach is dóigh go bhfuil an
aimsear deas atá again le gairead á chionnéal anseo.
Chuaigh mé síos
ann inniu agus cé go bhfuil an áit cinnéal lán, tá siad á
choinnéal glan. Tá an bruscar ar fad go deas neata i malaí
dubha.
Is dóigh liom nach

Caravans
on the New Pier
14/9/2002 - We now
have a total of 11 traveller caravans on the pier. They started
arriving a couple of weeks ago now and I thought they would
just move on in a few days as they normally do. Not this time and
more moved in yesterday. I suppose the good weather is keeping
them there for now.
I've heard from a
number of people that the Gardaí have been asked to move them on
but as yet they have done nothing about it. I can't imagine them
spending the winter there as it's not the best place to have in
caravan in a storm so I expect they will move on soon enough.
I took a drive down
there today to have a look and although a bit cramped for space
everything looked very tidy. All the rubbish is packed in black
rubbish bags and anything they are selling was covered up
neatly.
Apparently the
local sailing club have moved to the Sean Céibh for their mini
regatta tomorrow to avoid overcrowding at the new pier.

Spiddal
v Carraroe Football U10
13/9/2002 - Another
beautiful evening for the under 10 football game between Spiddal
and Carraroe. The venue was the college pitch in Spiddal and for a
change the Spiddal support matched that of the visitors.
The first half
started with Carraroe having most of the possession and Spiddal's
backs had to fight hard to avoid getting too far behind on the
score board. Carraroe's passing was very precise but they weren't
finishing on goal as they should have.
The few times that
Spiddal got out of their own half were brought to a stop by poor
passing.
The second half
proved better for our boys with some great opportunities up front
and 3 great chances on goal which could have gone either way but
unfortunately luck was not on our side.
A final score of
Spiddal 1-1 and Carraroe 1-5 was not a bad evenings work and could
have easily gone the other way.

Taispeantas Chois Fharraige
01/09/02 Today was
certainly one of the best days weather wise that I can remember
for the annual taispeantas. Over the years it has evolved into
mainly a pony show with an emphasis on Connemara Ponies.
Judging by the
registrations on the 4 wheel drive jeeps and trailers, people are
coming from all over Ireland to enter the competition.
There was also a
good variety of home baking, flowers and vegetables entered in
their various categories. I was pleasantly surprised to see 3
entries in the homemade butter competition and a good handful of
entries for the hand cut turf prize.
The old college was
the venue for the art and photography displays with a good selection
of entries from the younger locals.
If anyone has some

Spidéal v Oughterard Football U10
23/8/02 Our brave
young football players made the trip to Oughterard to face their
under 10's team. An Spidéal were slow to get going in the first
half and a lot of the players appeared tired early in the game.
Oughterard's big centre field proved too much for An Spidéal and
they were down by 8 points by half time.
Our boys were fired
up for the second half and performed much better equalling the opposition's
1 goal and 3 points. But the final score said it all

senior team will have a better result in Oughterard this evening
at 6:30 pm.

Chat
Room Changes
In light of resent
concerns over the usage by children of chat rooms on the internet,
we have made some changes to how visitors access our chat rooms.
When you now click on the Chat Room link you must first agree to
some precautionary guidelines before gaining access to the chat
room. This should act as a frequent reminder to people on how they
can use chat room in a safe manner and still enjoy
themselves.
We have also added
a second chat room to choose from and are asking visitors to vote
for the one they prefer. Once we have enough votes to make a
decision one of the room options will be removed.
Chat rooms can be
useful when away from home to chat cheaply with those left behind
from say an internet cafe of someplace with cheap internet access.
They can also be a good place for people to meet such as a few
friends all on the internet at the same time. These are ways chat
rooms can be used to communicate cheaply and when used correctly
they are still a worthwhile addition to any website.

Leitir
Mór under 10 footballers prove too strong
It was a beautiful
evening in Leitir Mór as their under 10 team took on the Spiddal
boys. They came out strong but Spiddal managed to fight back to a
2 point deficit by half time.
The Spiddal lads
never really got back into the game in the second half and to be
honest I lost track of the score. Our second defeat in a week is
not easy on these young fighters.
